New year, New Cottage right?!

Welcome 2019! I am pretty indifferent to see 2018 go, it wasn’t a bad year by no means but is wasn’t a stellar year either. If I had to define it in a word I would say CHANGE was the word or 2018. We had so many things change, some good and some bad. I already have my word for 2019 as well it is BALANCE.

I am going to BALANCE my checkbook with more accuracy than last year. I had a few booboos with that. I am going to BALANCE the soap and nursery of the cottage better with my family and work life. I am going to BALANCE family and work life…see I need lots of BALANCE this year and hope to figure that out.

I can say ending 2018 with the addition for the Teany Cottage Nursery was pretty awesome. I really enjoyed dropping off our first baby. I started painting reborn babies to donate to nursing care facilities and that is the nursery that I am speaking off and the babies are dolls. I speak of them as babies because they look very real and some are even weighted to feel more realistic as well.

So what is your word of the year????

Life is beyond crazy…

I am horrible at posting here and up dating but I am making going to do my best to get better. I had a printer issue and was unable to add the new soaps for the big sale Saturday. However I have since fixed that issue, so I will be labeling soaps today.  I have also lost all of my recipes because one of the little ones thought it was trash and threw my folder away, never a dull moment here at the cottage.

I am preparing to get some more soaps on the shelf now. I spent the morning cleaning and reorganizing my soap shelves so that they are ready to go. I also have new molds coming and going to be making a special soap this month, although it wont be ready until January, my one year soapaversary is in December. I have been getting great feedback from my soaps so that is nice.

Soap Dough

I have been wanting to try my hand at soap dough for awhile. I have been researching and learning everything I possibly can. I finally got the gumption to try to make something and here is the results of my first soap dough attempt.

Granted these are not very great but I am happy with them for a first attempt and will only get better as I keep trying. I think I am going to need another recipe for the dough as this one is very sticky and makes it hard to work with. I am still very excited to try again and to use these on a soap very soon.

Hello world!

Hello y’all. I am telling you what I really wish that I would have taken and technology course on all the internet and web page stuff before learning it like I am now. I might look at the local community collage and see if they offer a class that might help me. I really want to share my love of soap making and the whole learning process with everyone because I think that many people are afraid to fail so they don’t start when it comes to a new hobby. I know what I started looking into soap making I was overwhelmed and sure I was going to fail and end up in the hospital to boot. I have had a failure or five along the way. I thankfully have not ended up in the hospital but I am very careful following the safety guidelines when it comes to working with lye.

The most amazing part of the journey so far has been getting to share my creations with others. Therefore the point of this page is to share about techniques I am learning and experimenting with, along with ideas I want to try and soaps on my curing shelf. Therefore you will want to check back often to see what it new and exciting around the cottage. I hope you have a wonderful day.
